Dive-site MFO | The Sinker | Outside Hilton |

MFO (aka The Sinker, The Buoy, Outside Hilton)
, the unofficial diving emblem of Nuweiba. This dive site got its name from the UN-Troops MFO (Multinational Forces and Observers) located in a military area nearby. The dive spot, accessed either by shore or by boat, is very interesting. In the south west direction of the mooring line at -27 m is a huge Fan Gorgonian.

If you continue the dive with the reef on the left shoulder you will find a concrete block with a mooring chain on -35 m. In the hollows under the block you will see a lot of red lion fish and cleaner shrimps. If you follow the chain, encrusted with delicate soft- and hard coral, you come to an old navigation buoy which is 3m in diameter, left by the Israelis about 14 m under the surface. The buoy is surrounded by thousands of glass-fish.
Also Snappers, Groupers and Fusiliers feel at home here. A dive around the buoy is like flying around a television tower. (Attention: The unwary diver, if not careful, can get pushed into the buoy and the coral by the sometimes strong current.) If you continue the dive in a northerly direction you will find a beautiful plateau reef. This is the only reef in this area, so you will find many varieties of fish. Ideally the plateau is dived on a second dive.
